Beechwood construction. Makes hearty rolled oat flakes. Stainless steel conical rollers. Cleanup is quick and easy. Made in Austria.
The KoMo FLOCINO uses the same revolutionary design and engineering as the FLICFLOC, but with an adjustable roller gap, allowing for precision flaking. The flaker’s sturdy solid beech wood base can be securely attached to your table or worktop with its accompanying clamps (up to 2-9/16" thick edge.). Its white plastic hopper can hold a generous portion of more than 9 oz of oats. Thanks to its clever rolling system, the FLOCINO requires a short cranking radius of just over 6“. A great addition to your kitchen for the whole family. The quality, high strength components of all KoMo products assure long service life. The Flocino's hopper capacity is 9.4 oz, and it stands 9.8" tall.
Whether baked, cooked or raw, food tastes so much better when it's fresh—and oats are no exception. A variety of other grains can be flaked too with the Flocino, including wheat, rye, barley and millet, with a little preparation. These grains are normally dry and hard. To soften them, hold them under running water briefly in a strainer. Then spread the grains on a cloth or towel to let them dry over night or for at least 3-4 hours. This time will vary depending on the grain used, but a little experimentation will help optimize the process. The softened grain will flatten nicely into flakes, similar to commercially available rolled oats. At the same time this contact with water starts an enzymatic process which makes it easier for your metabolism to assimilate the minerals in the grain.

The Flocino manual flaker takes very little effort to crank, and the adjustment knob does allow you to produce coarser or finer flakes. However, I did not find the adjustment as precise as I had expected, and I never really managed to find a satisfactory “medium” setting. The flakes also did not look quite like store-bought ones; they were more irregular and shard-like, although that may simply be typical of home grain flakers.
I had read elsewhere that grains other than oats can be flaked if they are briefly rinsed in a strainer to soften them and then left to dry on a towel for at least four to six hours. This worked very well for me with rye.
The manual included with the flaker was entirely in German. A line in English at the end directed me to a website for manuals in other languages, but the link did not work. Fortunately, the flaker itself is not complicated to use. Still, I would have appreciated instructions on how to clean or prepare it before its first use.
(I have since found an English-language manual here: https://www.frohkost.ch/mediafiles/PDF/MuehlenundFlocker/KoMo_Manual_english.pdf)
The removable plastic bottom plate also kept falling off. At one point, I wondered whether it was a piece that was supposed to be removed before use, although I do not believe that is the case.
Overall, the Flocino does what it claims and works quite efficiently. I am mainly deducting one star because an English manual was not included or accessible through the link provided,…
