hawos grain mill Billy 1 is encased in high-density plywood, an outstanding material that guarantees a long-life product and offers progressive yet elegant styling. hawos Billy 1 is technically equipped like Mill 1. The motor and milling powers as well as the hopper capacities, are identical. The milling chamber is made out of hygienic, food light plastic (not made of plywood!). The grain direction of each layer of wood of the plywood housing is turned 90°. The plywood used is composed of thin cross-laminated layers of wood bonded under extremely high pressure. This results in an exceptionally high degree of stability which cannot be achieved in non-bonded wood.
The BILLY 1 features a laminated birchwood housing. The 11 ply construction is stable and rugged, with a pleasing appearance. Using the time proven 100mm Hawos Millwork, the BILLY
1 produces very fine flour. All dry grains can be ground with the Billy 1 mill, including soft
or hard wheat, oat groats (dehulled oats), rice, triticale, kamut,
spelt, buckwheat, barley, rye, millet, teff, quinoa, amaranth, sorghum,
soybeans and dent (field) corn. It will also grind lentils, dry beans
(pinto, red, garbanzo/chickpeas, kidney & more), and dried, non-oily
spices. It isn't suitable for herbs, oilseeds like flax or sesame,
popcorn, or fibrous materials. Dent (field) corn and soybeans can be ground to any texture from
cracked to meal to very fine flour. For these very large-kerneled
grains, grind first with the stones opened widely to produce cracked
grain, then a second time if you want flour.
The motor is a strong 360W brushless
direct drive induction design, able to grind corn with
ease, providing good output and reliable operation for decades.The corundum-ceramic milling stones are continuously adjustable
and self sharpening,
designed for long life and continued fine flour
output. The lever on the top-side of the mill body provides easy user
milling adjustment from very fine through to coarse. This is a genuine
and usable adjustment, one of the unique features of these mills. Hopper removal for mill chamber access is easy via 4 x body-top bolts.
